太陽系（systema solare ）が
太陽系のほぼ９９％の質量を持つ太陽を中心に
公転する天体と微粒子で形成され
太陽のかつどうを中心軸とした環境下にあるように
太陽系の属する
銀河系
および局部銀河群には
大小含むおよそ５０ほどの銀河が確認されている
もっとも遠い存在はGR８、最も大きい銀河はアンドロメダ
その重力にひかれてさらに多くの銀河がアンドロメダ周辺に存在している
今世紀に入ってからでも多くの惑星の発見があり
新しいものに目がいきがちだが
より大きな銀河には
その周囲を公転する伴銀河が存在する
銀河は恒星、惑星、星雲...と様々な天体によって構成され
双方の重力が同じくらいの場合は
連星系を形成したり
多用な形態を伴いながら
衝突や崩壊、融合を繰り返し
引き裂かれたり転移したり
せわしくなく活発な活動を
宇宙の誕生からくりかえしている
なぜかマゼラン雲が気になったので
マゼラン雲には小マゼラン雲、大マゼラン雲があり
ともに銀河系の伴銀河となっている
伴銀河の多くは最近の発見が多いなかで
この南半球でしか見られないマゼラン雲は
有史以前から知られていた
肉眼で観測できる
マゼラン雲の名は、
ポルトガルの航海家フェルディナンド・マゼランが
1519年の世界周航において記録していたことに由来している
マゼランは、かの大航海時代
スペイン船の艦船隊を率いて世界一周を試みた
出航は1519年
マゼラン自身は航海半ばの1521年に亡くなったものの、
（たしか、フィリピンのセブあたりで戦死）
彼が率いたスペインの艦隊は1522年に史上初の世界一周を成し遂げた。
そんなマゼランにちなんだこのマゼラン雲（写真は小マゼラン）は
きょしちょう座にぼんやりとした雲のように浮かんでみえる
太陽系からおよそ20万光年の距離に位置し、質量は銀河系の6分の1程度...
さいきん、ビッグクランチ（予想される宇宙の終焉）
の概念も変化しつつある
シンプルにいうと
ビッグクランチを迎えるのか
それとも膨張し続けるのかで
決着はついていないものの
永遠に膨張し続けるという考えが
現在のところ有力だ
それに
マゼランが大航海へと
旅した時代に比べたら
多くの変化を人類は経験してきた
予測不能なことは
これからもたくさん起こりうる
それなのに
人はどうしてか
過去にこだわりすぎる傾向があり
狭量になりがちだ
天体観測に適した季節になり
そら(宇宙）を仰ぎ見ると
今後のさらなる発見をおもってワクワクする
なにかにつまづいたり
迷ったとき
きっと
古代から人は天を仰いできた
